OUR GRAND FINAL
Forest Glade 2 vs. 6 Hambro Colts
16/3/08
Last game of the season, on what must be the coldest and the
windiest so far... I must admit that I wouldn't played on a day
like today, with gloves, hats & coats on, it was painful to be
out in the driving rain. (checked later, 30-35 mph and just
above freezing)
Today's game was make or break time, a must win with goals to go
equal top with Shore Athletic on 40 points. Concord Rangers B,
with one game in hand, would be checking the results very
closely tonight, as they too could go equal top and then it all
depended on goal difference.
The boys felt quite happy with the goal difference they already
had and I think the team just had play nice comfortable football
and enjoy themselves.
When the ball left the ground it just blew away in to a water
filled ditch running along side the pitch, so
a passing game for us, something we have practiced on a regular
basis, so I was really pleased when Micheal opened the scoring
after some great passing skills from the defence to midfield,
allowing him to pop the ball in around the keeper. 4-0 at half
time, but now playing into a diagonal wind, which was difficult
to make any kind of big clearances into.
Forest Glade started their comeback, putting two goals in,
taking full advantage of the conditions, but James soon
regrouped the defensive line and pulled Callum R from midfield
in to help occasionally, under some loud instructions from
skipper Callum E. Jordan was on top form, out running virtually
every attack through the centre, Everyone was pulling their
weight and there was no exception when sub Robert came on, who
has become so dependable. Alex closely supported by Nathan where
now firing shots off, only to hit the crossbar and uprights and
I could see they where getting very frustrated with their
efforts being blown away. I've not mentioned everyone, but every
single player was a team today and all that extra training was
paying off in fitness. Forest Glades weren't getting too close
now and any shots were being dragged away by the wind. It seemed
like hours before the final whistle went and boys all rushed in
to celebrate their win. A really enjoyable season for me and
Warren, as there wasn't any pressure to perform. A big thanks to
all the parents and to our sponsor Essex Lending Solutions Ltd,
but especially our parent rep Susanne and the man with the scoop
Neil, who inspected every inch of the pitch.
Hambro Colts 6 vs. 3
Benfleet Villa B
9/3/08
No one had to be told how crucial this game was, confidence was
a little low due to Kia and Nathan out of action and we where
not sure how Micheal was going to get on after a few weeks
injury break, so no subs today. Id like to say the weather was
better than usual, but id be lying, but the pitch was looking
good as usual, although the grass was a bit long. Good football
from both sides, but it was looking a bit one-side as we hit the
cross bar and uprights etc. When we did score, it was a big
relief to us and the boys... Benfleet weren't about to sit back
and where making a good breaks through the defensive line,
exploiting our weakness in midfield... I'm happy say that the
first half was ours and should of been a much higher score
before
the break. Benfleet should be proud of themselves to make
one of the best come backs against us this season and a total
turn around from earlier this year. Well done both teams good
football all-round.

3/2/2008
Hambro Colts B 0 vs. 2 Hambro Colts A
Hambro Colts 3 vs. 1 Forest Glade
20/1/2008
A strong wind was blowing down the pitch on a damp grey morning,
I could think of better places I could be... The skipper Callum
opted to play in to the wind, but Kia's strong presence was out
sick today and was being missed in the midfield. Micheal could
only manage 5 minuets on pitch before coming off injured, and
after things started out so good. The cross bar, uprights and
their keeper where keeping the ball out of the net, but Forest
Glade opened the scoring about fifteen minutes in, which was
starting to be end to end football with both teams playing same
strategy, the "Off-side Rule". Half time was time to make a
tweak to the midfield to exploit their week spot and it worked,
Kyle ran all way through their midfield and defence without a
challenge to score our first goal and was then instrumental in
assisting Nathan's goal soon after to much celebration 10
minuets later. Forest Glade wasn't finished yet and battled on
only to be stopped by Jordan, who was doing a lot running in
defence today. The 3rd and final goal came about 25 mins into
the second half and it was just a matter of holding them off
which was no easy task. The whistle couldn't soon enough for me,
in a great game of football... Well done to both teams for some
strong and nail biting football.

Elmwood Colts 0 vs. 10 Hambro
Colts 13/1/2008
I found out this morning that there is some rivalry between some
of the two teams players, yes they go to the same school and are
friends thankfully. Michael scored his first ever hat-trick and
went down injured after taking a corner during the second half.
Tom scored his first 2 goals for the team, along with James
first goal of the season. There was other goals of course, but
the most notable came from Sam, with a rebounded strike from the
centre circle which hit the cross bar, rolled down the keepers
back and in. Not stiff opposition, but they took this defeat
with dignity and not once complained, we wish Elmwood Colts C
every success next season.

Colts 2 vs. 0 Concord Rangers
6/1/2008
I don't think any of
us was looking forward to this game after Christmas, we knew
that this was going to be a really hard game. It didn't help
with a heavy training session on Saturday morning and then a
swim party in the evening at Clements Hall, so with the pressure
off, it was just a matter of the invertible... To my surprise,
the boys came out fighting straight away, must of burnt off some
of that Christmas pudding last night. Some great football all
round from both teams, but all that drilling of the off-side
rule was taking its toll on the opposition, it was the only way
to keep their forwards at bay, which was very frustrating for
them.
It wasn't long
before we started to make progress in their area and with their
defence and midfield all in the goal mouth, this help to block
the keepers vision long enough for a well deserved goal, a great
confidence booster. We had to hold this 1 - 0 for the majority
of the first half and it was looking as though they were going
to equalise during the second half, but confidence was running
high in defence, who played exceptional well and we must not
forget Callum who made some fantastic saves to keep us ahead in
the match. Finally a well deserved goal finished the game off
and Concord then sat back until the final whistle 5 mins later.
A fantastic game to watch, well done boys.

Another really small pitch, with the keepers area
only a few feet from the corner flag, very odd when it comes to
a corner...
Very high tempo game to start, again I think this
is due to the size of the pitch, didn't suit our of style
playing. Quick passing was the name of the game and both teams
where showing what they could do, but Michael opened the scoring
with a goal about five minutes in after a break from the halfway
line. Corners where being over shot by a long way, not
surprising really. Our opponents where not going to give up so
easily and where making breaks through our defensive line, but
thankfully for us, Callum was on top form today, gathering up
any attacks made on him. Nathan and Callum R where now very
dominant in midfield, picking up every loose ball and 50/50
tackle, which was taking some pressure off the defensive line.
The scoreline doesn't reflect the quality of play from Island
Boys and Girls who battled on and on, even when behind to put
one in against us. Some frustrations where coming out in the
dying minutes as the boys started to sit back and enjoy the
game, just passing the ball around. Sorry I can't remember goal
scorers as I have only just completed writing this a couple of
weeks later.

Nice early kick off at home and pitch is looking
really good, through the thick fog!!! Yep, you couldn't even see
as far as the centre circle. Fortunately, an hour later it was
soon lifting and the game was on. The game just held its own for
a while until a everything just clicked... The boys all of a
sudden realised that passing makes goals and Michael was given
free reign over the left wing to constantly cross into the box
for our forwards and midfield to put one in the back of the net.
When they did close him down, Kyle did the same from the
opposite side. Alex stole the glory today with a hatrick, but It
was soon apparent this was going to be a very one side game and
it was decided to swap the whole team around to slow things
down. James was playing the best I had seen since I joined the
team and a blinding long range shot from Jordon helped the teams
moral. Well done to everyone, can't mention you all, but I'm
sure you will be up for the next game in a few weeks time. Alex

Concord
Rangers 3 vs. 0 Hambro Colts 30th Sept
07
After some cancelled games, this was the first
game of the season for a new team, which was still trying to
finding its feet. The boys where soon on the back foot as
Concord made several quick attacks, but it wasn't long before
they started to realise they had get there first and use the
off-side rule. Our opponents managed to pop one in after a
simple mistake, which seemed to push the team down a bit, but
they started to perk up after some counter attacks where saved
by a brave goalie. Two more goals in the second half in the
favour of Concord and probably not underserved, but in the last
10 minuets it was all about getting one back and I saw some
great attacking football from our boys... It was all going our
boys way, but they just couldn't get one either on target or
poke one in the net from goal area scrambles... Concord where
now on their back foot and looking totally out place and should
be grateful to their stunning goal keeper. Still not up to match
fitness yet, but where getting there. Fitness was starting to
show at the end, better luck in a few weeks time for game 2.
