Hambro Colts 4 – 1 Canvey Island
02-03-08
It must have been the fact that the boys
clinched the runners up spot last week which made them play some
of the best football they have played all season. This is no
exaggeration when I say that there were phases of the game when
the passing and movement on and off the ball was so fluid that
it was mind-boggling. Also the quality of the first two goals
was at a high standard too. Again good movement down the right,
a good cross and a great first time left foot finish from James
O. The second goal was a similar pattern except this time a
great header. Then we found out that James O had promised his
Mum a hat trick for Mothers day and he didn’t disappoint. A
coolly taken penalty in the second half clinched the deal and a
put a big smile on Carols face. Maybe we should have Mothers day
every weekend?
I can’t remember who scored the 4th
but the game was all over before then.
A fine performance to end what has been a
great season.

Leigh Dynamos 0 – 5 Hambro Colts

This was
definitely a game of two halves and a team of two halves. The
only reason I can think of for the Jekyll and Hyde performance
is the early start. Maybe the team talk should have been a
bucket of cold water to wash the sleep away. The less said about
the first half the better so I will leave it there. The second
half was much improved as the score-line suggests, some great
work from Josh D down the left gave Jamie C all week to slot the
ball home and the goal settled the nerves. (And the blood
pressure) Two great strikes from Callum and a coolly taken
penalty by Jamie C although Rob had his eyes shut put the game
out of reach. A final strike from Ben C and the game was over.
Credit to Dynamo’s for making the first half difficult and
credit to the boys for turning the game around and putting in a
decent second half.

Hambro Colts 0 vs. 4 Kingdown Rangers
3/2/2008
Arguably our biggest game of the season as this was a top of the
table clash. But two long
shots and two lapses of concentration cost us the game.
The boys battled hard and were playing some decent
football when a long range effort put them ahead slightly
against the run of play. This was to be the pattern of the game
just as we were working our way into the game and starting to
get on top they would score. But to give the boys credit their
heads never went down and they worked very hard until the final
whistle. The boys gave their all which is all that can be asked
of them and were beaten on the day by a better team. There were
some very notable performances from the boys but it would be
unfair to single anybody as they all played well.

Conditions were poor as the sloping pitch was
probably the biggest we will play on all season with a cross
wind and several patches of thick mud in the goal mouth. Despite
this the boys battled hard and deserved to take the lead after
10 mins through a fine low placed shot from James O. To give
Chalvedon credit they fought hard to get back into the game and
we were lucky that they missed an almost open goal. Bobby made
several great saves in the thick mud and by the end of the game
came off with half the pitch stuck to him (hope the washing
machine is up to it). That scare seemed to bring some urgency
into our game as we picked up the pace and started to take
control. The dominance eventually told with a fine strike from
Jamie. The extra goal settled the nerves and we closed out the
game, another battling performance and another 3 points on the
board.
