History

Hambro Colts was founded by Bob and Jan Pointer in February 2001 as a break away from another local club taking its name from the area of Rayleigh where the club begun training.

Starting from a membership of 26 boys and 2 mini soccer teams we have grown with the assistance of dedicated volunteer’s year on year. Initially based at Downhall County Primary school the club now holds it coaching sessions at Rawreth lane recreation ground and plays it home matches at the Rocheway Centre Rayleigh. The main aim of the club is individual improvement through structured age related coaching.

The club Mission Statement "To provide opportunities in Football for all regardless of sex, race or ability”, based on a partnership between qualified and experienced coaches and informed parents/Carers accurately conveys the aim of the club to try and get the best out of each player, no matter what standard and to allow the players to play expressive positive football in a friendly non-pressurised environment. The club enjoys the benefit of both FA level 1 and FA level 2 Coaches.

The club achieved the FA charter Standard Award in 2002 and was awarded National Charter Standard Club of the Year in the same year. The club also achieved the Essex Club SX Gold award in 2003 and its coaching development Officer Bob pointer was named Essex Charter standard coach of the Year 2004.The clubs achieved FA charter development status in 2006 and was named Essex and Eastern Region Charter Standard Development club of the year the same year. The addition of a Soccerbility section in 2006 providing opportunities for children with special participation requirements to play for fun or competitively allows the club to accurately reflect the community in which it operates.

The club supports the following schemes:

Soccer Parent:
A proactive approach to addressing the problems that can be encountered due mainly to lack of understanding and communication between the club and its coaches and parents. Educational videos, brochures and best practice guidelines support the scheme. Hambro Colts are fully committed to firstly recognising the needs of all its members and encouraging an open democratic structure with a supportive and informed programme of presentations and newsletters.

Football Workforce:
A scheme designed to recognise and reward the contribution made to the club by its numerous backroom volunteers without whom it would not be able to function. Certificates provided By the FA are awarded at the clubs annual presentation day to all those many volunteers who work behind the scenes but who are integral to the continuing success of the club

Goal:
The single most important thing in children’s football. The FA Child protection initiative has been fully implemented and supported by the club by appointing a trained Child Welfare Officer who monitors all volunteer applications to work at the club completing full background and Criminal records Bureau checks. All coaches and Managers have to undertake mandatory Child protection courses.

Community coaches:
The club has an expanding number of community coaches who assist organisations and schools in the provision of football. An example of this association is the 8 week 3 lions course run at Charter Standard School partner Cedar Hall in February 2006 which directly led to the formation of the clubs Soccerbility section.
